Excessive pinging can really damage a site page reputation. I've do it myself where I add a blog post, check it on the frontend and find a misspell or something that needs tweaking.  I fix and save then find another... ugh!  It's ping-ping-ping-ping-ping, etc.  It's much better to add this plugin than expect a client to remember not to do this.  Make it simple on your clients and just add this and forget it :D
