I’ve been using WPIDE – File Manager & Code Editor for a while now, and I have to say it's an awesome plugin that feels underrated. It makes managing and editing files directly from the WordPress dashboard incredibly convenient, with its user-friendly interface, advanced code editor, IntelliSense, and error checker. 10/10

For almost a decade and a half I used to download/upload edited/updated files through my go-to FTP client, simply because that's how it was done back when I started working with WordPress. I don't have to explain why that's not very enjoyable... I tried a couple of file managers / editors before I came across WPIDE and they were all kind of "ok" but not outstanding.



WPIDE is:




very convenient to use, UI is pretty much down to the point (other editors often looked like windows 98 called and wanted their file explorer back) – also loads all elements quite fast



very good code editor for 99% of the stuff I need to edit through the admin backend (most of the other plugins used editors without syntax coloring etc.)



multiple (file)tabs are super handy so you don't have to "open" "close" "reopen" when switching between files; you just navigate the opened files like you would navigate a web browser



stable; did not crash once so far



after saving, it updates files lightning fast




I am currently using the free version as I don't need the pro features atm, but I will def be purchasing pro/lifetime as some of the pro features are functionalities I usually add through multiple plugins (picture editing etc.) and here it's all in one plugin so no additional "weight" added to the website. Pricing is also absolutely affordable, considering what you're getting!

Blocks a lot


I have been working with WordPress for years and have tried many file manager and code editor plugins along the way. For the last two years I had actually been searching for something exactly like this, but nothing really felt smooth or reliable enough. WPIDE finally solved that problem for me.



What impressed me the most is how clean and responsive the interface is. Browsing folders, opening files, and editing code all feel extremely smooth. It almost feels like working inside a lightweight IDE directly within WordPress.



The built-in editor works great for quickly updating plugin or theme files without jumping into FTP or external tools. For developers or site managers who frequently need to inspect or tweak files, this saves a lot of time.
