Bulk Comment Deleter is a free WordPress plugin to delete SPAM, Unapproved or ALL comments from the database.
The easiest way to delete all SPAM comments, Pending comments or ALL WordPress comments at once.
Upon activation, three new buttons will be added to the Comments screen:

<li>Delete All Unapproved – This option will let you delete all Unapproved comments.</li>
<li>Bulk Delete SPAM – This option will let you batch delete every SPAM comment.</li>
<li>Delete ALL – This option will let you delete ALL comments on your WordPress website.</li>
</ul>
Simply click on a button and confirm the delete process.
After revisiting the comments page, you will see all comments safely deleted from your WordPress site.

My site had a LARGE number of custom posts (150K+) that we had imported. During the import, duplicates were created to the tune of almost 40K posts. I set up the plugin to run in automated mode knocking off 100 posts every 30 mins. It took a LONG time - weeks - but it did the job without bringing down the server or corrupting the db. All while still permitting front and back-end access. 

I played around with the config settings to get to the sweet spot for the number of posts to delete at one time and the correct repeat cycle. It paid off.
