<p>This plugin allows users of subscriber- or greater access to subscribe to categories of posts on your wordpress blog. It is probably most appropriate for small to medium sites.</p>
<p>Users can:</p>
<ul>
<li>Choose whether they prefer HTML or text-only email,</li>
<li>Control on a category-by-category basis whether or not they get messages immediately or in a daily or weekly digest.</li>
<li>Control which categories they subscribe to.</li>
</ul>
<p>Site administrators can:</p>
<ul>
<li>Modify reply-to, from, and BCC addresses.</li>
<li>Modify user subscriptions on a users profile page.</li>
<li>Set basic parameters for delivery – how many messages to send at once to avoid usage complaints on shared hosting, for instance.</li>
<li>Bulk edit category subscriptions from the users list.</li>
<li>Exercise complete control over text and HTML templates.</li>
</ul>
<p>Other notes:</p>
<ul>
<li>Scheduled posts are only sent out after the wordpress backend actually publishes them. Put more simply, they work as expected. Be sure wp-cron is running correctly.</li>
<li>Admins can set a “send delay” parameter to allow last-minute edits before sending out a message.</li>
<li>If a message is unpublished after being published, message sending will be aborted. Messages sent already are – well – sent already. We can’t travel back in time (though that’d be a great 2.0 feature). This ensures that old posts needing minor edits don’t get sent out again as updates.</li>
<li>Only messages published after the date of installation are sent out.</li>
<li>Category hierarchy has no effect on subscriptions. If you subscribe to a parent category, you ARE NOT automatically subscribed to its children. This may be integrated into future releases. We may also allow for the subscription to tags or custom taxonomies in future releases.</li>
<li>Bounces ARE NOT handled by this plugin. You can, however, set the “reply-to” and “from” addresses to allow you to collect them in a logical place.</li>
</ul>
<p>Speaking of cron, if you have a low-traffic site (say, for an intranet), you may find that your messages aren’t delivered in the time frame you’re expecting. This is because wordpress scheduled tasks are fired off by visitors to your website – so if you don’t get a lot of traffic, your scheduled tasks won’t run frequently. You can manually create a cron job to hit your wp-cron.php file, something like:</p>
<p>*/15 * * * * wget -q –post-data=”foo” http://www.example.com/yoursite -O – > /dev/null</p>
<p>Remove the “-q” switch above when you test this manually to ensure the request returns a “200 OK” response.</p>

<p>Tools for Twitter integrates with Twitter by giving you the following functionality:</p>
<ul>
<li>Connect multiple Twitter accounts (via Social)</li>
<li>Archive the tweets from your Twitter accounts (downloaded every 10 minutes)</li>
<li>Create a blog post from each of your tweets</li>
<li>Create a tweet on Twitter whenever you post in your blog, with a link to the blog post (via Social)</li>
<li>Browse your tweets locally by @mention, #hashtag or user account (optionally display these publicly)</li>
</ul>
<p>Tools for Twitter leverages Social’s connection to Twitter so that you don’t have to create an app and copy keys around. It supports multiple accounts (must be authorized as “global” accounts in Social) with settings on a per-account basis.</p>
<p><strong>Support Level:</strong> Product Support (we want to fix bugs and make the product great, but do not provide individual support).</p>

<h3>Upgrading</h3>
<p>If you have upgraded from an older version of Tools for Twitter, your data will need to be converted to the new Tools for Twitter format. On the Tools for Twitter Options page you will see a prompt to upgrade if appropriate. Follow the steps to convert your data.</p>
<p>Tools for Twitter now stores complete Twitter data along with your basic tweet content. Over time, Tools for Twitter will request this data for upgraded tweets. This process make take a few days, as only 10 tweets are requested per hour (to avoid egatively impacting your rate limit).</p>
<h3>Connecting Accounts</h3>
<p>Any Twitter accounts connected on the Social settings page are available for Tools for Twitter. You can enable them on a per-account account basis, as well as specifying per-account preferences for creating blog posts, etc. (on the Tools for Twitter options screen).</p>
<h3>Managing your Tweets</h3>
<p>You can view, edit and delete (or unpublish) the local copy of your Tweets right in your WordPress admin. Navigate the tweets from the “Tweets” menu item and manage them just as you would any other post type. Tools for Twitter does not know if you’ve deleted a tweet on Twitter, so you’ll need to also delete the copy of the tweet from the admin to remove it from your WordPress site.</p>
<h3>Displaying your Tweets</h3>
<p>Tools for Twitter include options to create URLs for your local tweets using the following scheme:</p>

<p>You can enable public URLs for your tweets in your Tools for Twitter settings. If you choose not to enable public URLs for your tweets, you can still vuew and manage them from within the admin screens.</p>

<p>You can use a shortcode to display a list of tweets.</p>

<h4>Widget</h4>
<p>The options for the shortcode are also available for the Tools for Twitter widget via a few settings.</p>
<h4>Create Blog Posts</h4>
<p>Tools for Twitter can create a blog post from each of your Tweets. This feature can be enabled on a per-account basis. If there is an image included in the media data of the tweet Tools for Twitter will try to save that image as the featured image for the post and append it to the blog post content.</p>
<p>Please note that this will take effect for all future tweets, it does not retroactively create posts for older tweets (though you could pretty easily script it to do so if you desired).</p>
<h3>Customization</h3>
<p>Tools for Twitter is designed to be customizable via the standard hook/filter API. If you find you need additional hooks (or to suggest other bug fixes and enhancements) please create a pull request on GitHub.</p>

Tools for Twitter is a plugin that creates a complete integration between your WordPress blog and your Twitter account.
