<p>The plugin add a shortcode in order to link a paper using its doi code. You can also use an other shortcode to resolve doi code and publish a full citation apa formatted. It is also a shortcode for manual citations.</p>
<h3>Link doi</h3>
<p>Using the standard for doi link, the plugin introduce a shortcode in order to create a link to a paper provided by doi.<br />

<h3>Doi resolver</h3>
<p>The plugin send the doi code to <a href="https://search.crossref.org/" rel="nofollow ugc">Crossref Metadata Search</a>, get the information and publish a full citation in apa standard with the shortcode [ctdoiresolve …].<br />

<h3>Manual citations</h3>
<p>There’s also a shortcode for manual citations, [paperdata …]. You can use it with the following syntax:</p>

<p>You can also use the arxiv, pdfurl, archiveurl parameters.</p>
<h3>Styling</h3>
<p>You can style citations adding in your css theme the class “paperdata”.</p>
<h3>External service</h3>
<p><strong>Digital Object Identifier</strong>, or <em>DOI</em>, is a persistent identifier used to uniquely identify objects, standardized by the <strong>International Organization for Standardization</strong> (<em>ISO</em>). DOIs are mainly used to identify academic, professional, and government information, such as journal articles, research reports and data sets, official publications.</p>
<p><strong><em>Citations tools</em></strong> uses the <a href="http://search.crossref.org/help/api" rel="nofollow ugc">CrossRef Metadata API</a> to retrieve complete publication information using the doi code as a search query. CrossRef is a part of the <a href="https://dx.doi.org/" rel="nofollow ugc">doi system</a>.</p>

<li>On new or existing posts find “The Winnower Post Settings”</li>
<li>Find “Cross-Post to The Winnower” and choose “Yes”</li>
<li>Chose at least one Topic for the post</li>
<li>Click “Publish”</li>

<p>Your post will now be posted to the winnower!</p>
<h4>Getting your DOI</h4>
<p>Currently only administrators may request a DOI.</p>

<li>Once your post has been published, find “You can request a DOI here.” in “The Winnower Post Settings” click it and you will end up on the post’s page at thewinnower.com. (Eg. <code>https://thewinnower.com/posts/what-are-winnower-authors-doing</code>)</li>
<li>On your post’s page click “Revise this Paper”</li>
<li>Find the button “Archive” – Note: Once you archive your post it can no longer be updated.</li>
<li>You now have a DOI!</li>
<li>Go back to your post edit page in your blog and find the “Retrieve DOI” button and click it.</li>
<li>Now update your paper to save the DOI.</li>
</ol>
<p>The DOI will now display for citation at the bottom of you post!</p>


The Winnower Publisher

The Plugin is dependent on Piklist plugin. That is not exactly bad although standalone is expected. This plugin essentially publishes the whole post on their domain via API and add Creative Commons License without warning on WordPress side. Retrieving DOI needs separate paid membership on their website. These may not be known or understandable to a new WordPress user. 
Paid membership needed is not mentioned in description. Readme and on WordPress post page disclaimer is requested to add as soon as possible.
