<p>Comment Connection is a plugin that turns an element of comment text to a link for a previous comment. Whenever an author uses @<em>commenter</em>, the text after @ is automatically linked to the previous comment it refers to.</p>
<p>The plugin works by searching each comment for an occurance of @. Where it finds one, the plugin searches the comment database for a comment on the same post written by the person being referenced. By doing it this way, the plugin only adds one database query for each referencing comment.</p>
<p>If the type after the @ symbol does not correspond to a comment, no changes are made.</p>
<p>Currently tested successfully with the most current version of WP, 2.7. If you have trouble with earlier versions, or even have it work properly on earlier versions, please let me know.</p>

<h4>USAGE</h4>
<p>Inside a comment, write @<em>commenter</em> where <em>commenter</em> is the name of the author you are replying to. The plugin will successfully find a link when the commenter text is followed by a new line, colon (:), comma (,) or a dash (-).</p>
<h4>LIMITATIONS</h4>
<ol>
<li><em>Commenter</em> must be an exact match of the original author’s name.</li>
<li>Many database queries can occur for a post with many referencing comments.</li>
<li>Only links to the last comment made by commenter (ie. if the commenter writes many comments before the @, the most recent one is linked to).</li>

<h3>Warning</h3>
<p>This plugin uses the “wp_insert_comment” hook, therefore, everytime a comment is created, a notification is likely to be sent. If you are importing comments into your blog, it’s a good idea to disable this plugin.</p>
<h3>Sending e-mails does not work?</h3>
<p>The plugin uses the standard WordPress e-mail function. If you have problems getting e-mails sent, you might try using plugins like https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/ to improve sending e-mails from your site.</p>
<h3>Customizing the layout of the checkboxes</h3>
<p>The label next to the checkboxes don’t contain a whitespace. Depending on your theme you might want to add a custom style like this to get a space between the checkbox and the label:</p>

<p>The plugin does not add this style be default as it depends on your theme if this is neccessary.</p>
<h3>Customizing the email template</h3>
<p>To customize the email template, copy the “templates” folder to your theme folder (a child theme should be used to avoid losing the custom templates when the theme is updated). The plugin will look for templates on the “/wp-content/themes/[THEME]/templates/cren/” folder; if a custom template is not found, then it will fallback to the default template.</p>

<h3>Changing the subscription checkbox label</h3>
<p>The checkbox label can be changed with the <code>cren_comment_checkbox_label</code> filter. This way you can update the text to your taste and keep the plugin updated.</p>
<h3>Changing the GDPR checkbox label</h3>
<p>The GDPR checkbox label can be changed with the <code>cren_gdpr_checkbox_label</code> filter. This way you can update the text to your taste and keep the plugin updated.</p>
<h3>Modifiying HTML output</h3>
<p>Using the filters <code>cren_gdpr_checkbox_html</code> and <code>cren_comment_subscribe_html</code> you can modify the HTML output of the checkboxes if needed.</p>

Comment Reply Email Notification

I always hated the WordPress default commenting system for one reason, it never sends a follow-up reply email to Comment Author. Guess, what? This plugin fixes it instantly. Of course, your e-mail system should be working in first place with proper SMTP services. 

It helps in keeping the user engaged. It's easy to use. There is sufficient option to be compliant with GDPR. The author of the plugin is professional, provides timely support. I wish him good health and happiness. 

If you're a serious blogger, I highly recommend this plugin. Go for it.
