<p>This plugin converts emoticons to Font Awesome icons. Emoticons such as smilies like <code>:-)</code> and <code>:-P</code> are replaced with icons. There are several advantages of these vector icons:</p>

<h3>Important Notes</h3>

<li>You’ll need to disable WordPress’s “Convert emoticons…” in Admin “Settings -> Writing” (otherwise it will conflict with this plugin)</li>
<li>A Font Awesome kit is required, don’t worry it’s free from Font Awesome.</li>

<h3>How To Set Up A Font Awesome Kit</h3>
<p>A kit is free from Font Awesome, and required for this plugin.</p>
<ol>
<li>Go to Font Awesome’s website and click on the “Start” link in the top navigation.</li>
<li>If you don’t have an account yet, type in your email address into the form. Other wise type in a name for your kit.</li>
<li>Click the “Send Kit Code” button.</li>
<li>Open up your email client and and open the email from Font Awesome.</li>
<li>Follow the instructions in the email to finish creating your kit.</li>
<li>Copy and paste the kit URL into the settings in this plugin. Your kit URL should look like this: https://kit.fontawesome.com/YOUR_ID_HERE.js</li>

<p>This plugin and it’s developer is not affiliated in any way with Font Awesome or fontawesome.com. Fonticons, Inc. holds all the copyrights and usage terms to the icons. This plugin simply displays the icons as allowed under Fonticons, Inc.’s terms of use.</p>

<p><strong>Quickly enable or disable emojis conversion with an option.</strong></p>
<p>When you disable the option, Emoji Settings stops the conversion of ASCII smilies like <code>:)</code> and <code>:D</code> to images on any WordPress installation. This plugin also prevents changing real emojis to Twemoji (Twitter) images. It achieves this by removing several default WordPress scripts.</p>
<p>You can find the option at “Settings > Writing” (<code>/wp-admin/options-writing.php</code>).</p>
<p>This plugin does not prevent real emojis (inserted via an emoji keyboard) from being stored and outputted on your website.</p>
<h4>Emoji conversion enabled by default</h4>
<p>I wrote this plugin with a WordPress.com-like environment in mind, giving users an option without overriding standard WordPress behavior.</p>
<p>You can change this behavior via filter <code>cw_emoji_overrides</code>. Refer to the code for instructions.</p>
<h4>Does more than “Disable Emojis”</h4>
<p>Emoji Settings also fixes Character Encoding issues on sites originally installed with WP 4.2 or lower. And this plugin correctly removes the conversion of emojis in the admin area, for example, from post titles.</p>
