Easily create a link to another post using a shortcode to reference the post by id or slug; the link text is the post’s title, unless overridden.
When writing your posts, you can refer to other posts either by ID, like so:
<pre><code>[post2post id="20"]
</code></pre>
or by the post slug/name, like so:
<pre><code>[post2post id="hello-world"]
</code></pre>
When viewed on your site, the post-to-post link tag is replaced with a permalink to the post you’ve referenced. By default, the text of the link will be the referenced post’s title, resulting in something like:

You can optionally customize the link text by specifying a <code>text=""</code> attribute and value to the post-to-post link tag:

</code></pre>
Which yields:
<pre><code>Check out "<a href="http://example.com/archives/2011/07/01/hello-world/" title="Hello World!">my first post</a>".

The plugin provides its own admin options page via <code>Settings</code> -> <code>Post2Post</code> in the WordPress admin. Here you can define text that you want to appear before and/or after each post-to-post substitution, and if you want to enable legacy tag support. The plugin’s admin page also provides some documentation.

These are all valid ways to reference another of your posts on the same blog.

Assuming all of the above were used to reference the same post, the replacement for the post-to-post shortcut would be:

For any of the above you can also optionally wrap the shortcode around text. If so defined, that text will be used as the link text as opposed to the referenced post’s title.

You can also optionally definte the text that appears before and after the generated links. By default these are quotes.

The legacy syntaxes — which are disabled by default and not recommended for use unless you’ve used version of the plugin earlier than v3.0 — allow you to refer to other posts by ID using a pseudo-shortcode syntax or an HTML comment syntax, like so:
<pre><code>[post="20"] or ``
</code></pre>
or by the post slug/name, like so:
<pre><code>[post="hello-world"] or `.`
</code></pre>
The HTML comment notation was the original syntax employed by earlier versions of this plugin (pre v2.0). While it is still supported, it is no longer the primary and recommended syntax. The pseudo-shortcode syntax was in use between v2.0 and v3.0 of the plugin.
NOTE: The HTML comment syntax notation does NOT play well with the visual (aka rich-text) editor in the WordPress admin.
Examples of old legacy syntax follow. Those that use the pseudo-shortcode syntax (i.e. <code>[post=25]</code>) only work if you’ve checked “Enable legacy pseudo-shortcode tag support?”. Those that use HTML comment notation (i.e. <code></code>) only work if you’ve checked “Enable legacy HTML comment-style tag support?”.

NOTE: Only activate the legacy mode(s) that apply to your use of older versions of the plugin. If you started using the plugin at v3.0 or later, you should not activate either legacy mode.
<h3>Filters</h3>
The plugin exposes one filter for hooking. Typically, customizations utilizing this hook would be put into your active theme’s functions.php file, or used by another plugin.
c2c_post2post_shortcode (filter)
The ‘c2c_post2post_shortcode’ hook allows you to define an alternative to the default shortcode tag. By default the shortcode tag name used is ‘post2post’. It is recommended you only utilize this filter before making use of the plugin’s shortcode in posts and pages. If you change the shortcode tag name, then any existing shortcodes using an older name will no longer work (unless you employ further coding efforts).

Insert Pages lets you embed any WordPress content (e.g., pages, posts, custom post types) into other WordPress content using the Shortcode API. It also includes a widget for inserting pages into any widget area.
The real power of Insert Pages comes when you start creating custom post types, either <a href="https://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Types" rel="nofollow ugc">programmatically in your theme</a>, or using another plugin like <a href="https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-post-type-ui/" rel="ugc">Custom Post Type UI</a>. You can then abstract away common data types (like videos, quizzes, due dates) into their own custom post types, and then show those pieces of content within your normal pages and posts by Inserting them as a shortcode.

<h3>Example: Normal Use Case</h3>
Say you teach a course and you’re constantly referring to an assignment due date in your course website. The next semester the due date changes, and you have to go change all of the locations you referred to it. Instead, you’d rather just change the date once! With Insert Pages, you can do the following:

<li>Create a custom post type called Due Date.</li>
<li>Create a new Due Date called Assignment 1 Due Date with Fri Nov 22, 2013 as its content.</li>
<li>Edit all the pages where the due date occurs and use the Insert Pages toolbar button to insert a reference to the Due Date you just created. Be sure to set the Display to Content so Fri Nov 22, 2013 shows wherever you insert it. The shortcode you just created should look something like this: <code>[insert page='assignment-1-due-date' display='content']</code></li>
<li>That’s it! Now, when you want to change the due date, just edit the Assignment 1 Due Date custom post you created, and it will automatically be updated on all the pages you inserted it on.</li>
</ol>
<h3>Example: Advanced Use Case</h3>
Say your site has a lot of video content, and you want to include video transcripts and video lengths along with the videos wherever you show them. You could just paste the transcripts into the page content under the video, but then you’d have to do this on every page the video showed on. (It’s also just a bad idea, architecturally!) With Insert Pages, you can use a custom post type and create a custom theme template to display your videos+transcripts+lengths just the way you want!

<li>Create a custom post type called Video.</li>
<li>Use a plugin like <a href="https://wordpress.org/plugins/advanced-custom-fields/" rel="ugc">Advanced Custom Fields</a> to add extra fields to your new Video custom post type. Add a Video URL field, a Transcript field, and a Video Length field.</li>
<li>Create a new Video called My Awesome Video with the following values in its fields:

<li>Create a template in your theme so we can display the video content as we want. I won’t cover this step here since it’s pretty involved, but you can find more help in the <a href="https://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development#Custom_Page_Templates" rel="nofollow ugc">WordPress Codex</a>. Let’s assume you created a template called Video with transcript (video-with-transcript.php) that shows the youtube video in a <a href="http://fancybox.net/" rel="nofollow ugc">fancybox</a>, and includes a button that shows the text transcript when a user clicks on it.</li>
<li>Edit the pages where you want the video to show up and use the Insert Pages toolbar button to insert a reference to the Video you just created. Be sure to set the Display to Use a custom template, and select your new template Video with transcript. The shortcode you just created should look something like this: <code>[insert page='my-awesome-video' display='video-with-transcript.php']</code></li>
<li>That’s it! Now you can create all sorts of video content and know that it’s being tracked cleanly in the database as its own custom post type, and you can place videos all over your site and not worry about lots of duplicate content.</li>
