Featured Image Plus – Quick & Bulk Edit with Unsplash

The plugin may be simple and it is, but at the same time, it's a huge timesaver.

I love the idea of the Quick Edit Featured Image setting and I find it useful. I will use the plugin for development.

Highly recommend the plugin despite its competition, it is light-weight and simple, which suits my development needs perfectly.

I had hoped to find a simple plugin that'd show an input field when selecting the featured image or maybe a tab and then search for images in Unsplash or other sources.



It didn't work like that.



In fact, after installing it and clicking away all the "BUY PRO" or "GIVE ME 5 STARS" notifications on the Dashboard, I couldn't intuitively find a way to actually use this plugin. In my opinion, plugins should be made in a way that it doesn't need any description and can be used intuitively.



The plugin's settings page made it clear that the free version is more or less useless. Most features, including the core ones, aren't available (i.imgur.com/0p8Zk8s.png) unless I pay for them. I don't mind developers making money with their plugins, but this just goes too far. This also goes for the constant CTA to rate this plugin, which I'm doing right now.



In addition to that, the settings page is ugly, and the code behind it is probably not the best either. When saving something, I receive dozens of "Settings saved" notifications (i.imgur.com/Pw3rDYi.png).



I wish I could say anything positive about this plugin, but I did not find anything. I'm giving it two stars because the only useful feature I found was the bulk setting of the featured image for multiple posts.

<p>If your theme uses a custom method to load the featured image (such as the Twenty Seventeen theme), this plugin may not work. To ensure compatibility, use standard WordPress functions like <code>get_the_post_thumbnail()</code>, <code>wp_get_attachment_image()</code>, or the <a href="https://wordpress.org/support/article/post-featured-image-block/" rel="ugc">Post Featured Image</a> block.</p>
<p>Additionally, by default, this plugin only hides the featured image when it is loaded inside the loop. If your theme loads it outside the loop check out the first FAQ entry for a solution.</p>

It works!

I was able to get this working on Genesis Press themes by adding the following code.

Easily control whether the featured image appears in the single post or page view (doesn't hide it in archive/list view).
