<h3>How wp_head and wp_enqueue_script work</h3>
<p>WordPress loads styles and scripts in two steps:</p>
<p>1) Registration + enqueue (what you do in PHP)<br />
– You register a script/style and enqueue it using WordPress functions.<br />
– Common hooks:<br />
  – <code>wp_enqueue_scripts</code> (front end): enqueue scripts/styles for the theme and plugins.<br />
  – <code>admin_enqueue_scripts</code> (wp-admin): enqueue for specific admin screens.<br />
  – <code>login_enqueue_scripts</code> (login screen): enqueue for wp-login.php.</p>
<p>2) Output (what WordPress prints into the page)<br />
– WordPress prints the enqueued styles and scripts into the HTML at the proper places, using theme hooks:<br />

<p>How this plugin uses these hooks<br />
– For the Cookie Consent Widget, you can choose between:<br />
  – Auto-embed: The plugin hooks into <code>wp_head</code> very early to print the consent script as high as possible in the <code><head></code> for best consent enforcement. This is intentional because consent tools must run before other scripts.<br />
  – Manual embed: You paste the provided <code><script></code> tag directly into your theme (ideally above other scripts in the head) if you need strict ordering or have custom setups.<br />
– For admin pages and settings, the plugin uses <code>admin_enqueue_scripts</code> to load its admin bundle only on our settings page to keep the rest of wp-admin lightweight.</p>
<p>Troubleshooting and best practices<br />
– Always load third-party tracking scripts after consent scripts have run. If you must hard-code tags, put the GetTerms script above them in the head.<br />
– Never echo <code><script></code> tags directly in templates unless you must. Prefer <code>wp_enqueue_script</code> to let WP handle dependencies, versions, and placement.<br />
– Make sure your theme calls <code>wp_head()</code> before <code></head></code> and <code>wp_footer()</code> before <code></body></code>. Most themes already do; if not, scripts will not appear.</p>
<h3>Data Collection and Privacy</h3>
<p>The plugin communicates with the GetTerms content network (<code>https://app.getterms.io</code>, <code>https://gettermscmp.com</code>, <code>https://gettermscdn.com</code>) to deliver policy content and manage cookie consent. The following data is transmitted:</p>

  – Authentication token (provided by you) is sent to app.getterms.io to verify your account and fetch your Compliance Pack configuration.<br />
  – Your site’s domain is sent to app.getterms.io to validate authorization and deliver domain‑specific settings.<br />
– When a page loads with the Cookie Consent Widget enabled (auto‑embed or manual embed):<br />
  – The page will request widget resources from gettermscmp.com and gettermscdn.com.<br />
  – Anonymous consent state and user choices (e.g., accepted/rejected categories) are transmitted to gettermscmp.com when visitors interact with the banner, for the purpose of storing and enforcing consent. No personally identifiable information is required for this.<br />
– When a page renders a policy via a shortcode (e.g., Privacy Policy, Terms):<br />
  – The embed runtime from gettermscdn.com requests the latest policy content from app.getterms.io and/or the CDN, along with the configured language.<br />

<p>Control access to your WordPress site with a popup. WP Terms Popup gives you the ability to use a popup to restrict users from accessing your website. You can use the plugin to ask visitors to agree to your terms and conditions, terms of service, or privacy policy before they are allowed to view your site. Add an age verification check to your popups before they can be accepted.</p>
<h3>How Does WP Terms Popup Work?</h3>
<p>WP Terms Popup gives your users a simple three-step process for gaining access to your website. Use this as a way to make sure your visitors are presented with your terms and conditions, terms of service, or even a privacy policy before viewing your WordPress site.</p>
<p><strong>Step #1: Your user must read the popup first.</strong></p>
<p>You decide what your popup shows to visitors: terms of service, a privacy policy, etc. You can include any content, such as text or images, that you would include in a typical WordPress post.</p>
<p><strong>Step #2: The user agrees to your conditions.</strong></p>
<p>Each popup contains two buttons: one to show acceptance and another that redirects away from your site. The popup will not go away until your user clicks the accept button to agree to the content of your popup.</p>
<p>You can add an optional age verification check to your popup as well that disables the accept button until a valid date of birth is entered. Age verification settings can be defined while you create your popup.</p>
<p><strong>Step #3: Website access is granted to your user.</strong></p>
<p>When the user accepts your popup they are immediately taken to your site without any further interaction. They will not see the popup again until your agreement expiration has expired.</p>
<h3>Getting Started</h3>
<p>After installing and activating WP Terms Popup, go to “WP Terms Popup” in your WordPress admin menu and select “Add New” to create your first popup.</p>
<p>Go to “Settings” in the same “WP Terms Popup” menu to create the global settings that will apply to all popups. You can override some of these settings by editing each individual popup.</p>
<p>From the “Settings” screen you can assign a popup to be shown sitewide or you can assign popups to individual pieces of content using the standard post editing screen.</p>
<p>You can set up age verification using the WP Terms Popup Settings meta box. Define how old a visitor has to be to agree to your popup. You can also set the order of the age verification dropdowns so the date format matches your country’s format. The age verification feature is available in WP Terms Popup 2.6.0 and above.</p>
