<p><em>Multi-Column Taxonomy List</em> is a plugin that allows you to list your categories, tags, or custom taxonomies into multiple columns.</p>
<p>This plugin is great to use on custom archives index pages to display all categories, tags, and custom taxonomies on a single page. You can also turn the list into links to the RSS feeds for your taxonomies.</p>
<h3>Usage</h3>
<h4>Shortcode attributes</h4>
<p>You can implement a new list by adding the shortcode <code>[mctl]</code> to the content of a page.  By default, it will output the categories into three columns with a heading of Categories.  You can customize the output using attributes in the following format: <code>[mctl taxonomy='post_tag' title='Tags']</code></p>

<li><strong>columns</strong>: Sets the number of columns to use

<li><strong>orderby</strong>: Sort terms by name, unique ID, slug, or the count of posts in that term

<li><strong>order</strong>: Sort order for the terms (either ascending or descending)

<li><strong>alpha_grouping</strong>: Output the first letter of each alphabetical grouping

<li><strong>show_count</strong>: Toggles the display of the current count of posts in each term. <code>0</code> is false/off and <code>1</code> is true/on

<li><strong>exclude</strong>: Exclude one or more terms from the results.

<li><strong>parent</strong>: Get direct children of this term

<li><strong>rss</strong>: Turns the list into links to RSS feed of term. <code>0</code> is false/off and <code>1</code> is true/on

<li><strong>search</strong>: Return terms that contain the ‘search’ string

<h4>Template tag</h4>
<p>Alternatively, you can implement a new list by adding the the template tag <code><?php multi_column_tax_list(); ?></code> anywhere in the code of your theme. Just like the shortcode, by default it will output the categories into three columns with a heading of Categories.  You can customize the output using a string of parameters in the following format: <code><?php multi_column_tax_list( 'taxonomy=post_tag&title=Tags' ); ?></code></p>

<h3>Why Organize Terms Into Groups?</h3>
<p>Most WordPress sites mix up terms into one big messy group. In most cases, terms should actually be separated by topics: places, people, features, years and more.</p>
<p>Your term however, will become much more useful if you organize them in groups. Imagine a tag cloud where all places appear in a “Places” group, all names under “Names” and all years under “Years”. The Tag Groups plugin lets you do exactly that.</p>
<p>The plugin gives you many term displays. You can also customize them, append or prepend something to each tag. You can add separators, choose the link target, set the smallest and the largest font size, display the post count and much more.</p>
<h3>Does Tag Groups Only Work With Tags?</h3>
<p>No. Tag Groups works also great with most other (flat) taxonomies, such as WooCommerce product tags.</p>
<p>The plugin does not support hierarchical taxonomies like categories.</p>
<h3>Does Tag Groups Work with Multilingual Websites?</h3>
<p>Yes, this plugin is officially compatible with <strong>WPML</strong>, the WordPress Multilingual plugin. This means you can use a different tag group name for each language.</p>
