<h3>Usage</h3>
<p>The plugin automatically replaces user names with 16 digits coded strings. There are no settings. Just install and forget. Deactivating the Plugin restores the default WordPress behavior.</p>
<h3>Why use this plugin?</h3>
<p>WordPress uses the pattern <code>example.com/author/name</code> for author page URLs where <code>name</code> represents the users login name.</p>
<p>This means that the <strong>login names from all your users are publicly visible</strong> which is a serious security flaw.</p>
<p>The Smart User Slug Hider Plugin changes all author page URLs from e.g. <code>example.com/author/john</code> to something like <code>example.com/author/e9e716def73f76ac</code>.</p>
<p>The codes are generated automatically and its impossible to make conclusions about the user names. The WordPress default URLs will cause a 404 (not found) error.</p>
<h3>Shortcodes</h3>
<p>The plugin adds three shortcodes you can use in your posts:</p>
<ul>
<li><code>[smart_user_slug]</code> – the user slug of the post author – e.g. e9e716def73f76ac</li>
<li><code>[smart_user_url]</code> – the url of the post author’s profile page – e.g. example.com/author/e9e716def73f76ac</li>
<li><code>[smart_user_link]</code> – adds a link to the post author’s profile page</li>
</ul>
<h3>Theme Functions</h3>
<p>The plugin adds two functions that can be used in theme files:</p>
<ul>
<li><code>get_smart_user_slug( $author_id )</code> to <strong>get</strong> the user slug for the author – the parameter $author_id is optional, if omitted the author`s ID of the current post is used</li>
<li><code>the_smart_user_slug( $author_id )</code> to <strong>display</strong> the user slug for the author – the parameter $author_id is optional, if omitted the author`s ID of the current post is used</li>

<h3>Multiple Authors</h3>
<p>With PublishPress Authors, you can set multiple authors for each post. When you write a post, you’ll see a box in the right sidebar. Here you can choose from all the users on your site, and assign them as coauthors.</p>

<h3>Guest Authors</h3>
<p>Using PublishPress Authors, you can create Guest Authors who don’t need an account on your site. PublishPress will treat Guest Authors identically to Authors who are linked users.</p>
<p>You will be able to select and display Guest Authors in exactly the same way as for registered users. Each Guest Author can have a full profile, plus an avatar, and their own archive page for blog posts.</p>
<p>You can create two types of Guest Authors. You can add authors to a new “Guest Author” user role, or add them without a connected account.</p>

<h3>Author Categories</h3>
<p>Author Categories is a feature that allows you to have different types of authors for WordPress post. For example, you can label one user as an “Author”, one as “Contributor” and one as an “Editor”. This enables you to give different types of credit to the all the people who work on your content.</p>

There will be a row of letters on the top of this display. If you click on any of the letters, you’ll be able to drill down to view only the authors whose names begin with that letter. There’s also a “Author Recent” view that allows you to show your authors, together with their most recent posts.</p>
