<p>With this lightweight plugin you can create a contact form.</p>

<h4>How to use</h4>
<p>After installation add the VS Contact Form block or the shortcode <code>[contact]</code> to a page to display your form.</p>
<p>You can also go to Appearance > Widgets and use the VS Contact Form widget.</p>
<p>Customize your form via the settings page or with attributes.</p>
<h4>Settings page</h4>
<p>The settings page is located at Settings > VS Contact Form.</p>
<h4>Attributes</h4>
<p>Settings and labels can be overridden by adding attributes to the block, shortcode, or widget.</p>
<p>This can be useful when having multiple contact forms on your website.</p>

<h4>Display form submissions in dashboard</h4>
<p>Via the settings page you can activate form submissions being stored and displayed in your dashboard.</p>
<p>After activation go to menu item “Submissions”. Your form submissions will be listed here.</p>
<h4>SMTP</h4>
<p>SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is an internet standard for sending emails.</p>
<p>By default, WordPress uses the PHP <code>mail()</code> function for sending emails. But when using SMTP there’s less chance your form submissions are being marked as spam.</p>
<p>You must install an additional plugin for this, such as <a href="https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/" rel="ugc">WP mail SMTP</a>.</p>
<h4>Cache</h4>
<p>If you’re using a caching plugin and want to avoid conflicts with the contact form, exclude your contact page from caching. This can be done via the settings page of most caching plugins.</p>

<h4>Translation</h4>
<p>Translations are not included, but the plugin supports WordPress language packs.</p>

<p>The translation folder inside this plugin is redundant, but kept for reference.</p>

... is this plugin when they are looking for contact forms. There are some many contact form plugins with drag and drop building stuff really nobody uses.
This plugin is really simple and perfect for my use!
Also this plugin does not contact any external servers. Perfect!

However it’s flexible enough to handle a wide range of page-based use cases. It can even be configured to work with Custom Post Types by adding a couple lines of code:</p>

<h3>Custom Loops</h3>
<p>If your page has any custom loops or queries, they need to be followed by <code>wp_reset_query()</code>, otherwise the global <code>$post</code> variable will no longer reference the correct post and by the time the sidebar is displayed, Simple Page Sidebars won’t know which page is being viewed, possibly leading to an unexpected sidebar being displayed.</p>
<h3>Theme Sidebars</h3>
<p>Some themes register different sidebars for their page templates, which means there isn’t a default sidebar that can be replaced. To use Simple Page Sidebars in this instance, you can create a child theme and force page templates with custom sidebars to use the default sidebar.</p>

Initially I was disappointing it didn't work on custom post types, but then bothered to read the instructions.
The developer had bothered to put down exactly how to do this:
