Every customer who bought your product and loved it is a review waiting to happen. Photo Reviews for WooCommerce makes sure that review includes a photo — and that the next buyer sees it exactly when they need to. Backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee.

A five-star text review is good. A five-star review with a photo is the sale.

Shoppers have learned to read text reviews skeptically — they are easy to fake and hard to verify. A photo of someone wearing the product, a short video unboxing it, an image showing the actual size and quality — these are not easy to fake, and every shopper knows it. Visual reviews carry a different weight than text alone.

Studies consistently show that products with photo and video reviews convert at significantly higher rates than those with text reviews only. The customer who uploads a photo of your product is doing your most effective marketing for you — reaching future buyers who trust another customer’s real experience far more than they trust your product description.

Photo Reviews for WooCommerce builds that stream of visual social proof directly into your product pages — and keeps it flowing automatically.

Feature details

Photo and video reviews with built-in image cropping

Customers upload images and videos alongside their written review, directly from the standard WooCommerce review form. Multiple files per review are supported. Before uploading, customers can crop their image — choosing a free crop or a fixed ratio (1:1, 16:9, 4:3) — so what appears on the product page is exactly what they intend to show. Images are automatically compressed and resized on upload to keep your server storage clean. The result is a product page that shows your product in real homes, on real people, in real use.

Rating filters with progress bars

An average star rating with visual progress bars for each rating tier gives shoppers an immediate, at-a-glance read on product quality. Filter controls let visitors sort reviews by star rating, recency, or whether the review includes media — so a buyer who specifically wants to see photos can find them instantly, and a buyer who wants to read the critical reviews can get to them without scrolling. Clicking directly on a rating bar filters to that star level immediately.

Automated review request emails

The hardest part of building a review library is getting customers to come back and write one. Photo Reviews for WooCommerce sends automated emails after purchase — requesting a review, prompting customers who left text to add a photo, and sending a thank-you when a review with media is submitted. The sequence runs without any manual work from your team. Every order becomes an opportunity to collect another piece of visual social proof, automatically.

Coupon incentive for photo reviews

When a customer submits a review with a photo or video, the plugin can automatically generate a unique WooCommerce discount coupon and email it to them. The coupon is single-use, tied to the reviewer’s email address, and expires after a configurable number of days. You choose the discount amount and type (percentage or fixed). This one feature consistently increases the rate at which text reviews get upgraded to photo reviews — because customers have a concrete reason to add that image.

Verified Purchase badge

Each review is checked against the WooCommerce order history. Reviews from customers who have a confirmed purchase of that product are marked with a Verified Purchase badge. Shoppers can immediately distinguish reviews from buyers from reviews from anyone else, which increases the trust weight of the reviews that matter most.

Helpful votes and editable reviews

Customers vote reviews as helpful — surfacing the most useful, detailed reviews to the top of your listing organically. Reviews that other shoppers find valuable rise; reviews that do not, stay lower. Customers can also edit their own reviews at any time, including updating their star rating, rewriting their text, removing individual photos, or adding new ones. Editable reviews remove hesitation from first-time reviewers who worry about being locked into a permanent post.

Five product page layouts — including a slider

Choose how your reviews are presented without touching code. Five layouts are available from the settings panel:

Default — the standard WooCommerce list, unchanged

Cards Grid — reviews in a responsive card grid with hover shadow

Minimal List — clean, compact list with thin dividers and small avatars

Magazine — the most recent review spans full width as a featured piece, followed by a two-column grid

Slider — reviews in a scrollable carousel with navigation arrows and dot indicators

Embed reviews anywhere with a shortcode

Place photo reviews from any product on any page of your store using a simple shortcode:
[xyno_photo_reviews product_id="123"]
. Four layout options are available — list, grid, masonry, and carousel. Use this to add review sections to homepages, landing pages, campaign pages, or anywhere else a product’s social proof should appear. The default shortcode layout is set in the admin and can be overridden per shortcode.

Option to hide reviewer name

Some customers are willing to share a detailed review and upload photos — but not their name. The option to display review content while hiding the reviewer’s identity removes a genuine barrier to submission, especially for personal or sensitive product categories. When enabled, reviewer names are masked to the first letter only (e.g. J***).

Full admin control

Edit review content, manage and moderate uploaded media, customize the layout and color scheme to match your brand, and schedule review request emails — all from one admin settings panel integrated into WooCommerce → Settings. An admin dashboard widget shows a live summary of total reviews, what percentage include photos or videos, average rating, and how many reward coupons have been issued. Every element of how reviews look and behave on your product pages is yours to control, without touching code.

What your store gains

Higher conversion rates on every product page. Visual reviews are the single most trusted form of social proof available to an e-commerce store. Every photo uploaded by a customer is doing conversion work around the clock.

More photo reviews, not just more reviews. The coupon incentive and built-in image cropper each increase the rate at which customers go the extra step of attaching a photo. More visual proof, with less friction.

A self-sustaining review collection system. Automated request emails keep new reviews coming in without manual outreach — your review library grows with every order, passively.

Reduced purchase hesitation. Shoppers who can filter to the reviews most relevant to them — by rating, recency, or media — find their answer faster and abandon less often.

More review submissions overall. Helpful votes, editable reviews, optional name privacy, and verified purchase badges each remove a different barrier that stops customers from submitting. Lower friction means more reviews.

On-brand review presentation. Five layout options and full color customization mean the review section looks like it was designed for your store, not dropped in from a generic plugin.

The stores that benefit most

Fashion, apparel, and accessories

Fit, color accuracy, and fabric quality are impossible to convey in a product description and difficult to trust in text reviews. Customer photos of the actual product being worn resolve the questions that stop purchases — size comparisons, true-to-life color, and how it looks in real lighting. The built-in image cropper means customers can frame their photo precisely before it appears on the product page.

Home goods, decor, and furniture

Shoppers buying for their home want to see the product in a real room, at real scale, in realistic lighting. A customer’s photo of your lamp on their actual bedside table is more persuasive than any lifestyle photography your store produces. Photo reviews are, in this category, the closest thing to a showroom. The shortcode lets you pull those reviews onto a room-by-room or style-based landing page — not just the product page.

Electronics, tools, and technical products

Video reviews that show a product working — unboxing, setup, in use — build a level of confidence that spec sheets do not. A two-minute customer video demonstrating a product answers more pre-purchase questions than three pages of description. Verified Purchase badges carry particular weight in this category, where buyers are most skeptical of reviews that cannot be traced to a real purchase.

Beauty, health, and personal care

Results-based categories live and die by before-and-after social proof. Photo reviews give customers a place to share results on your product page — where that proof converts the next buyer immediately, rather than existing only on external social media. The option to hide reviewer names makes submission feel safer in categories where customers may not want their identity linked to a personal care product.

Photo Reviews

Allow your customers to add photo and video reviews, display rating filters with progress bars, and send automated review request emails. Fully customizable and simple to manage.

Easily add captions to single-product photo galleries

When present, image captions are read up to 300% more than a page’s main text. They are an opportunity to educate potential customers in bite-sized chunks, to tell as well as show why your product will solve a customer’s problem, and may be the only text on the page that gets read after the title.

Gallery Captions for WooCommerce adds captions to the photo gallery on WooCommerce single-product pages to help you show the best features if your products. The image’s title and caption are displayed below the image, both on the page and in the expanded lightbox view.

Captions can have either a title, text, or both. The title and text are displayed below the large image on single-product pages.

Simple to use

No configuration is required. If Gallery Captions for WooCommerce is active and an image has a title or caption set, they’ll appear in the gallery.

Set the Title and/or Caption fields when adding images to a product’s gallery and they will appear below the image.
Captions Help Sell More

Because captions may be the most-read text on a page, and most people only have time to read 28% of all the text on a page, captions are a golden opportunity to communicate with your customers. Captions help customers understand your product better than an image alone; for example drawing attention to specialized features or reinforcing the quality of materials. They give you a chance to explain things that are difficult to communicate in an image like size, weight, or feel, in a place that’s highly likely to be read.

Using captions with your images helps customers be better-informed about their purchases so they can be confident that they are buying what they think they are buying.

Technical Details

Turn captions on or off by activating or deactivating the extension in WordPress Admin > Plugins.

Caption title and text is pulled from each image’s “Title” and “Caption” fields.

Gallery Captions for WooCommerce doesn’t change your data — it’s completely non-destructive.
