Alex Gorbatchev’s SyntaxHighlighter is a fully functional self-contained code syntax highlighter developed in JavaScript. To get an idea of what SyntaxHighlighter is capable of, have a look at the <a href="http://alexgorbatchev.com/wiki/SyntaxHighlighter:Demo" rel="nofollow ugc">demo page</a>.
