With every major WordPress Core Update, WordPress.org will be pushing out new versions of it’s own plugins and themes. What this plugin does is block that new content from downloaden onto your webserver.
There are a few good reasons you want this: 
* Avoid backups being unneededly big in size 
* Avoid longer backup creation and restore times 
* Lower the risk of getting hacked due to heaps of unused PHP code on your webserver
This is an UltraFast plugin. This means it will not use the database connection, it will not create a settings screen etc. Effectively it is only a single line of code we are adding to WordPress.

Automatic upgrades on live sites are, we think most people would agree, a Bad Idea. You can’t test them before they go live; they’ll play havoc with your version control system, if you’re using one; and if they fail or screw up, your live site is broken. Bad. Idea.
