Description

The Bulk Block Converter plugin scans all posts and pages for classic content. Then, provides options to individually or bulk convert all the content within ‘Classic’ blocks to individual blocks. This is an extremely useful tool when migrating a site from the WordPress Classic Editor to the new WordPress 5+ Gutenberg Editor.

After upgrading to WordPress 5, all post and page content previously created using the Classic Editor will be contained within the ‘Classic’ block. Typically, in order to convert the content within the ‘Classic’ block to individual blocks, you must edit each post or page individually. Then, click the ‘Convert to Blocks’ option for the ‘Classic’ block. If you have a significant number of posts or pages, this can be a very long and tedious process. The Bulk Block Converter plugin was created to drastically reduce the time it takes to convert classic content to Gutenberg blocks.

Please Note: The block conversion process is irreversible. So, be sure to backup your site before converting your content to blocks.

Installation

Note: This plugin requires the WordPress 5+ editor.

  1. Upload ‘bulk-block-converter’ to the ‘/wp-content/plugins/’ directory
  2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
  3. Navigate to Tools > Block Conversion.
  4. Click the ‘Scan Content’ button.
  5. Optionally convert individual posts or bulk convert all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does the plugin work?

A: The plugin scans all posts and pages for content contained within the ‘Classic’ block. Then, allows for the conversion of that content to individual blocks.

Q: Can I convert a specific group of posts or pages to blocks?

A: Yes. After scanning your content, choose only the posts or pages you would like to convert to blocks. Then, select ‘Convert’ from the ‘Bulk Actions’ dropdown, and click the ‘Apply’ button.

Q: Does it work for all post types?

A: At this time, the plugin is only designed to work for posts and pages. However, if requested, we will consider releasing a plugin version that converts other post types as well.
