Description

Holler is a customisable contact form that uses AJAX to send messages without leaving the current page. It can be configured to send to a choice of addresses and degrades nicely if Javascript is not available.

Installation

  1. Upload holler.php to your plugins folder, usually wp-content/plugins/
  2. Activate the plugin on the plugin screen.
  3. Use the WordPress plugins editor and set the addresses you wish to send to.
  4. Add the following line to your templates where you want the contact form to appear:
  5. If you want the form to appear in only one post or page, add where you wish it to appear. Be careful to only include one instance of holler in each page, or you’ll get unpredictable results.
  6. To localise Holler, download the corresponding .mo file and put it in ‘wp-content/plugins/holler’

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you alter the format of the messages?

Yes. Open up the plugins editor and customise the $holler_messages array. There are instructions inside.

How many email choices can I have?

As many as you like, just make sure that they all have a unique alias.

How does it work?

When the user submits, the message is processed in the background. It uses SACK, an AJAX Kit by Gregory Wild-Smith, that comes built in with WordPress 2.0

Will it work with WordPress 1.x?

It should work with any installation that includes SACK. That means 2.0 for sure, and others if you <a href=http://twilightuniverse.com/resources/code/sack/”>download SACK and put it in the wp-includes/js/ directory.

Will it break if the user doesn’t have Javascript?

Nope. It should degrade nicely, and just leave an explanatory message.

Will it break if the XML call fails?

Nope. It should degrade nicely, and say “Contact Form Disabled”.

Will this run on every WordPress page and post?

Nope. It’ll only run on pages where you add the template tag, or posts and pages where you type in the content.
