Posts are usually listed in reverse chronological order as they are often used for posting regular time-orientated content. 
postMash lets you customise the order your posts are listed in using it’s simple Ajax drag-and-drop administrative interface. Plus it gives quick access to toggle posts between draft and published states. Particularly useful if you’re using WordPress as a CMS. 
It now no longer requires any modifications to your template code. If you disable postMash your post will go back to your usual ordering.

Intuitively reorder Posts, Pages, Custom Post Types, Taxonomies, and Sites with a simple drag-and-drop interface.
Intuitive Custom Post Order lets you reorder items with simple drag and drop in the WordPress admin. 
You can sort Posts, Pages, Custom Post Types, Taxonomies, and (on Multisite) Sites.
Go to Settings → Intuitive CPO and select which content types you want to make sortable. 
Once enabled, just drag and drop items in the list tables—no extra setup is required.
If you create custom queries in your theme or plugins, set <code>orderby=menu_order</code> and <code>order=ASC</code> to respect the drag-and-drop order. 
To keep the default WordPress order (by date), explicitly set <code>orderby=date</code> and <code>order=DESC</code>.

It often leaves multiple posts with the same order value, which means that they might not be sorted the way you want on the front end (or after refreshing the admin).

Critical bug

Each time you update the order when you have thousands of posts it will literally destroy your disks IOPS. If you wondered why your AWS RDS was running out of IOPS, this plugin is the reason it is happening, it will update each and every posts menu_order meta, which if you have 15k posts is 15k queries to the DB.

Having a news site and 2-3 authors posting new stories every 30min to an hour will equal 45 000 queries to your db, rapidly eating your IOPS and your site will fall over. if you are using a hosting provider and they keep pestering you to update and charge you more, this is the reason why. 

If you have a small site with few posts, this is fine. If you have a huge site, do not use this plugin or if you plan on having a huge site do not use this plugin until they fix the indexing.
