SEO Images that work is a simple plugin for automatical adding Alt and Description tags to all images on your Wordpress website.

<p>With this lightweight plugin you can add a meta description to your website.</p>
<p>The meta description summarizes the content of a post or page.</p>
<p>Search engines such as Google and Bing will use the meta description when displaying search results.</p>
<p>Add a meta description only for your homepage, or for each individual post and page.</p>
<p>This plugin also supports WooCommerce products, product categories and tags.</p>
<h4>How to use</h4>
<p>After installation go to the settings page. This page is located at Settings > Meta description.</p>

<p>Translations are not included, but the plugin supports WordPress language packs.</p>

<p>The translation folder inside this plugin is redundant, but kept for reference.</p>

VS Meta Description

it's really foolish to stick a single meta description in the sitewide header template. that's duplicate content so google knows immediately it's poor quality. it will do more harm than good to your rankings.

Simple plugin doing exactly what it is supposed to without bloat. 
Maybe a button could be added to the Default Open Graph Image field, to select the image directly from the library instead of pasting its URL.

Works perfectly

The plugin works perfectly, it is extremely small (8kb zipped), which is a big plus, and the developer is super nice, very responsive and simply awesome.
